Mira Bishara Dabit, a Palestinian activist, sister, and friend passed
away five days ago on December 15, 2012, at 9:30 p.m. D.C. time. She
holds a Jerusalem ID and is hence a citizen of Israel. She died from a
heart attack and the Israeli Embassy in DC is not willing to issue her a
visa to bring her home to be buried alongside her family. They are
insisting on a detailed cause of death report, which takes no less than
60 days to be issued. This has become a humanitarian issue, as well as
one of discrimination, had Mira been a Jewish-Israeli citizen I am sure
things would have been handled differently. All that we ask is to bring
Mira home to bury her in her homeland. We are looking into the
possibility of issuing her a visa to enter the West Bank only, so that
she will simply pass through Israel and into Ramallah. She also holds a
Jordanian passport. I am reaching out to anyone who may think they may
know anyone of any influence, or who may assist in ending this tragic
crisis. She fought long and hard for human rights, equality, and
justice, and now, as individuals, community members, and human beings,
it is our duty to do the same to her. If you think you can help in
anyway
